About Hourglass Workshops

Our Mission

We encourage women to discover themselves again after years of service to others. In a fun, collaborative, and informative style, we guide women to live a rich, full second half of life.

Nancy M. Burns, L.Ac

NancyHi, I’m Nancy Burns. “Hourglass Workshops” is the brainchild I began ten years ago. Flashback: Divorced, we’d filed for bankruptcy, I was in the midst of menopause and just finished seven years of school. I began Valley Acupuncture in the same year my youngest child left home. Oh, and I began dating for the first time in thirty years. Yes, that was my life ten years ago.

My mom always said “the strongest steel is wrought in the hottest fire”…well now I know what that means.

Hourglass Workshops sprang from a question a man on a first date asked me, “What do you like to do?” Huh???? I had no idea what I liked to do. I knew what everyone else in my life thought I should do, but I’d lost touch with me and couldn’t answer his question.

In my acupuncture practice, I have listened to so many women going through similar circumstances, experiencing the same confusion I did. Cherryll Sevy joined me and in the past several years, we have read hundreds of books, attended seminars and using our own experiences, we have created an online community, weekly video conversations, programs, and workshops to connect with more women in fun, informative and inspiring ways.

Cherryll Sevy

CherryllI’m Cherryll Sevy, a writer, speaker, businesswoman, wife, and mother, and like most other women–so much more!

Many years ago, I found myself divorced with two small children. This was soon after starting a new business which I ran successfully for over 30 years. For the next two decades, I was a single mom, businesswoman, while trying to have a social and dating life. Talk about a challenge!

During that time, I felt like I’d buried parts of myself as a result of being so responsible to everyone else. Ten years ago I remarried, I retired from my business 3 years ago, and have been exploring midlife opportunities and rediscovering dreams buried long ago.

I have always been deeply involved in women’s issues in my life and career as a corporate consultant, trainer and speaker, and volunteer. I’ve had unique experiences which have given me a perspective about women and how we move through the world in our various roles. I met Nancy Burns several years ago and soon joined her in Hourglass Workshops, creating programs, doing our weekly video conversations, and workshops. I also write about women in midlife on my webpage.
